Set during the French Revolution, Les Miserables tells the story of Jean Valjean, who is sent to prison for 19 years for the simple crime of stealing a loaf of bread. Valjean breaks his parole and starts a "new life" with a "new name", free from crime and prison. He works his way up through society and becomes mayor of a small town.

Meanwhile, Valjean is hunted down by Javert, the policeman who's lifelong search for Valjean and his capture has now become an obsession. Can Javert accept that Valjean is a good and honest man ? Can Valjean avoid being recaptured?
