Mahler?s statement that ?a symphony must be like the world: it must contain everything? is applicable above all to his massive 8th Symphony, often called the ?Symphony of a Thousand? because of the vast orchestral and choral forces it requires.
Barts Choir and Wimbledon Choral Society, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Berkshire Young Voices and a team of top soloists, bring this huge work to the Royal Albert Hall under the baton of Ivor Setterfield.
Marking the centenary of the composer?s death, this will be a spectacular musical event which uses the spatial resources of the Hall to the full.
