Hailed as a defining moment in Russell Maliphant's career when AfterLight first appeared at Sadler's Wells as a brief solo in 2009, this full-length version makes a welcome return for two nights only after its acclaimed premiere last autumn.
Inspired by photographs of Vaslav Nijinsky and his geometric drawings, AfterLight was developed by Maliphant with lighting designer Michael Hulls, a pairing that has been called ?the most important creative partnership in modern British dance? (Daily Telegraph) and features projections evolved in collaboration with animator Jan Urbanowski.
Set to Satie's hauntingly beautiful Gnossiennes 1 ? 4 and new music by composer Andy Cowton (Two, Push), AfterLight is performed by three dancers and includes an Olivier award-nominated solo performed by Daniel Proietto.
A masterpiece of modern dance, AfterLight is a visual feast that explores new possibilities in lighting and beauty of movement.
